School Governors

Mrs Brook

Chair - Mrs J. Brook

I have been Chair of Governors since 2005. My links with this area go back a long way, as I lived in Soothill as a child, and worked as a Headteacher in Batley for many years. As the Chair of the Governing Body, I work closely with Mrs Hopwood and other governors to support the school in providing every child with a successful educational experience at Lydgate.

Ms Pandor

Ms F. Pandor - Parent Governor

I have been a governor at Lydgate Junior and Infant School for the past nine years.  I am a former employee of Kirklees educational service and have a keen interest in the education of all children. As a parent of two former pupils at the school I strongly believe that all children can flourish and reach their full potential if provided with the right opportunities. I am pleased to be part of a strong and enthusiastic team who continuously aim to make children's education a memorable experience at Lydgate.

Tahera Mayat – Co-opted Governor

I have been a governor since September 2017. I went to Lydgate School and have been living in the local area for many years. It will be good to give back and positively influence the future generation. Currently, I am a full time student at University of Leeds and enjoy doing part time education outreach work. I believe it is important to equip children with the skills and confidence to achieve their full/true potential.

Mr Patel

Mr Z. Patel - Community Governor

I have been a governor since 2009. I have one child at the school. Having attended Lydgate myself many years ago I am interested in how it has developed and is responding to the needs of a changing community.

I am a Civil Servant. I have an MSc in health policy. I have mentored high school pupils in Leeds and young disabled people from black and minority ethnic communities in Birmingham.

Mrs J. Cartwright - Staff Governor

I have served as a Staff Governor at Lydgate J & I School since 2006. My role is School Business Manager which involves finance, office and building management. I enjoy my varied role, working with an excellent team of staff and seeing the children progress.

Mrs Cartwright

Mr N. Wright - Parent Governor

I was proud to be elected a Parent Governor at Lydgate in November 2015, and my daughter is currently in Year Two. I have lived with my wife in the Soothill area for 15 years.
I work in the Logistics industry, which employs large numbers of young people, so I know how important the skills Lydgate teaches are - maths, reading and writing, using technology and the ability to work in a team with others. These are the skills that will enable our pupils to make the most of whatever opportunities their futures may offer them.

Sumayya Mulla – Parent Governor

I was honoured to be elected as a parent governor in February 2018 and I currently have a son here at Lydgate. I am passionate about education for all ages through my work as a GCSE Mathematics teacher and my involvement in organising playgroup sessions for toddlers in the local area.

I have gained a good understanding of the Primary Healthcare sector having previously worked as a qualified Optometrist for three years in Leeds.  I am looking forward to working with the Lydgate community to help all of our children to flourish.

Mrs E Broome(2)

Mrs E Broome - Staff Governor

I have worked at Lydgate Junior and Infant School for 4 years.  I am the Reception teacher and Key Stage 1 Leader.  I see my role as fundamental to both children and parents, ensuring that each child's transition to our school is a positive experience and that parents are happy.  I believe that in order to be successful in life, children need to believe in themselves and their abilities, have a love of learning, show determination to succeed without giving up and be independent. This is at the heart of Reception teaching. Prior to becoming a teacher, I spent 15 years working in the private sector in various management, leadership and training roles. I use my previous experience in my daily school life.

Lorraine Needham-Reid - Co-opted Governor

Lorraine Needham-Reid co-opted governor from the Oxfam Textile Recycling Centre in Soothill. I have always had an interest in education having been a governor many years ago when my sons were at primary school, they are both at University now.  I also have a Masters in Education but in the lifelong learning sector and take an active interest in the development of my staff.  I am really looking forward to learning more about Lydgate and becoming part of its community.

Roxanne Strafford - Co-opted Governor

I work for the local Tesco store in Batley where I have helped to run The Farm to Fork Project for a number of years. The Farm to Fork project has been really successful in helping schools and youth groups across the UK gain the skills to have a healthy, happy relationship with food.

I have worked with the school and pupils for different projects and am excited about helping the school progress further in the future.
