For the first half of the Autumn term, we will be exploring the incredible history of Ancient Egypt and how their ingenuity in agriculture and building have influenced and enriched our lives today. We are so excited to learn about Tutankhamun’s death mask before we make our own! Our learning will not only cover historical aspects such as their social structure, their way of communicating, mummification and the wonders of the pyramids, but also the Geography of the country in relation to where we live.

In Science, our topic is ‘Teeth and digestion’ during which we will learn about the different jobs our teeth have, how food and drink affect them and which organs are used for the different stages of digestion. It’s a fascinating and gruesome subject that the children will love!

Handwriting will be a focus this term to ensure that our letter formation, position on the line, joins and fluency improve.  We will be developing our writing skills by learning how to improve and enhance sentences by using a range of techniques in descriptive writing, as well as revising basic punctuation and spelling rules. We have started reading our class book, ‘Matilda’, and in our reading skills lessons we will be focusing on finding evidence in a text to support our answers.

In Maths, we will be consolidating our understanding of place value, such as what the value of each digit is, placing numbers on a number line and comparing numbers. Our Year 4 children will also be learning about negative numbers and how to round to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Wilson and Mrs Daud
