Two children from every class represent their own class on the School Council. The children are elected to the School Council by their peers. They take whole school issues and ideas from their own class councils and feed them into the School Council. They also share ideas and decisions from School Council with their class.

We spent our first meeting deciding what we wanted from School Council this year and we have decided that school council is a way for all children in our school to have their say. As a result, school council members have been speaking to their classes about what they would like us to tackle.

During this school year we will be involved in decision making, planning and organising, representing our peers and helping out around the school.

Your School Council is made up of the following pupils:

Meet the Mayor

The school council of Lydgate School were invited to meet the Mayor of Kirklees Gwen Lowe.  On Tuesday 22nd January the Year 6 school council  along with the head boys and girls visited her and her attandants at Batley Town Hall.

We discussed lots of interesting things such as how many councillors there are across Kirklees, how they help to make Batley a better place to live and how money is spent on our area like our parks and leisure facitlities.

We were lucky enough to have our photo with the Mayor and her husband.

We were delighted to be invited to the meet the Mayor, so much so, we have invited the Mayor to visit our school in March.
