Welcome to Year4/5!

This Autumn term we are learning about the Ancient Egyptians – pharaohs, pyramids, mummification, the River Nile and how to use an atlas! We shall be making our own sarcophaguses, river reef boats and explaining to you how to mummify a body!

Thanks to all the children who came to Cliffe House we had a fantastic time and Year 4 were amazing in school. We used our experiences to write a descriptive setting in a forest and now we are moving onto writing a non-chronological report about a fantasy creature! Our creature will be linked to our class book ‘How to Train a Dragon’.

In Maths we have started using 4, 5- and 6-digit numbers, counted in powers of ten and rounded number to the nearest 10, 100, 1000 and some of us 10,000! We are going to use our rounding skills to estimate answers when we start our addition and subtraction learning.

How can you help me?

  • Can you help me practice counting in multiples of 10, 6, 7, 9 and 25;
  • Can you challenge me by asking me to round different numbers;
  • Ask me about coordinating and subordinating conjunctions;
  • Practice my spelling and timetables with me!

  • Swimming on Fridays for Year 5
  • PE Thursday all class; Tuesdays Year 4. Don't forget PE kits please!
  • Homework goes out on a Friday to be back on a Wednesday
  • Don't forget to check my class Dojos to see how amazing I have been!
