Welcome to Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Autumn Overview

This term, our topic is The Great Fire of London! We will be learning all about what London was like in 1666, what happened during the fire, and how we know about it now.

PE lessons will be on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the children will need to bring their indoor PE kits (which should consist of a white t-shirt and either black or blue trousers or shorts) in for all of these sessions.

Homework and spellings will both be sent home on Fridays and need to be completed and returned by the following Thursday. The children will also be set a homework project each half term, and we are excited to see what the children will find out and create about The Great Fire of London at home! This could be anything, like a written diary, a 3D model or a collage.

Reading books will also be sent home with the children, and we would like to ask you to try and read with your child at least 4 times a week. Please make sure your child brings these in every day.

Please free to come and talk to us if you have any questions at all!

Mrs N Stead & Miss R Cartwright

This half term in maths, we have learnt how to multiply by 2, 5 and 10 by grouping and using arrays. We are now working on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s to solve multiplication number sentences.

We have also learnt how to divide by two by sharing and using arrays! Next, we will be working on finding fractons - 1/2 and 1/4 of quantities, shapes and objects.

In Literacy we are reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a class and working hard to describe the characters in the story! We have learnt how to use adjectives and similes to describe Willy Wonka. We are working very hard on our sentence structure and using the conjunction 'and' to join words and clauses.

Soon we will be doing our independent Big Write to describe Mr Wonka!

In P.E we are very lucky to have Premier Coaching come into our school to teach us. They have taught us lots of new balances and we are really enjoying our P.E lessons!

We have also been practising our throwing and catching skills which will aid our coordination.

P.E is a lesson that we all love, so please remember P.E kits!
