We are nearly at the end of term already!

Next week is our Autism Awareness focus week. Parents are invited to come into school on Tuesday morning at 9am. Please come along to the school office as the morning  will begin in the Hall.

The following day will be Onesie Wednesday. Children may wear their Onesies to school for a contribution of £1 please. All of the money raised will go to Autism Awareness.

Thursday is our last day of term and my last day at Lydgate. It would be wonderful if every child came to school that day so that I can say a proper 'goodbye' to everybody.

Well done to Year 4 who have got 100% attendance this week.

The whole school attendance is 95.5%, which is better than last week, but still not great. Our target is 97% for this year so we really do need to have everybody here everyday. Please also remember that school starts at 8.50 so try and get here bright and early so that you are ready to learn!

We have had PC Pete in school this week talking to children in KS2 about personal safety. There were lots of important messages for the children to hear.

Today we look forward to welcoming children from 2 other school councils to visit and work alongside our school council. Children from Mill Lane and St Peter's in Birstall will be coming at lunchtime. I'm sure they will have lots of brilliant ideas for joint working!

  • Friday 19th January (jhopwood.lydgateprimary.kgfl)

    Bad Weather - background information...

Snow and ice is a headteacher's worst nightmare and we have had both this week. In the event of bad weather, I liaise at 6am with Mr Keogan who is already at school and can tell me what the situation is. I look at the weather forecast and then have to make the difficult decision of what to do.  Please be assured that I only decide to close our school or delay the opening in exceptional circumstances where the safety of your child/ren is the primary concern. On occasion this may be due to the availability of teaching staff who travel some distance to reach school, rather than purely conditions for pupils getting to school. Once that decision is made, I notify Kirklees, the school staff and parents.

The decision to alter the school day or close completely is very difficult as it impacts on everybody in a different way. Some parents want school to stay open whilst others want it to close.

The decision is made as early in the day as possible and always in the best interests of the children and adults involved.

Thank you for your understanding and support. Let's hope the sun shines on us next week!

An amazing time was had by all at the first ever Lydgate Super Sleepover this weekend.

Sixty two children and 9 staff members spent the night in school and we have raised over £600. This will go towards new reading books.

A massive thank you to the staff who gave up their evening and to the children who were brilliant. Thanks also to the parents who collected their children promptly, therefore allowing the staff to go back home to bed!
